When I bought my Janome, I was so excited I started using it right away. BUT the thread tension was weird.

It didn't show up right at all. In fact I have to keep my tension for the upper part of my machine at close to 0!

I didn't want to complain about it because it's suppose to be a better machine than my brother and I thought eventually it will somehow fix itself.See it's been like this since I have gotten it. I did all the things I 'knew' like1. Re-threaded the top thread - didn't help2. Re-threaded the bobbin thread - didn't help3. Changed the needle - didn't help4.

Re-did the bobbin -didn't helpI'm sure there are other things you can do that I didn't think of or knew but these were the things that usually 'fixed' my brother.Well it worked when I had it set to 0 so I just lived with it.Now after looking at the Hello Kitty comments it seems that people that bought the Hello Kitty sewing machine also had a thread problem! And it's a Janome too!Anyways in the comments they actually said how to fix that problem! ^^So here is my plate and I'm suppose to take it off.I'm lucky that my plate is only held down by one screw. I'm sure that's like everyone else.;-)So you're suppose to take the bobbin out with the bobbin holder. This is my naked sewing machine! It was kind of dusty so I blew it out with my compressed air (that stuff you use to clean keyboards). So here is my bobbin with it's bobbin holder.Anyways in the comments (for the hello kitty sewing machine) it said to pull at the thread while it's in the bobbin hold.

So it's suppose to have a nice tug. Not too loose or too tight. It turns out that mine was really really loose. I had not problem tugging at all.So to fix it all you have to do is take a little screw driver and for me I needed to tighten that screw between where my bobbin thread enters the bobbin holder and where it exits it.BOOM that totally fixed my problem! Now I can have my top tread tension at 4 and have my stitches come out right. Sweet.Anyways this really helped me and I thought if I blogged about it, it might help other people.

^^Thanks a bunch! Pepper Marshsaid.HI There,THANK YOU SOOO MUCH FOR THIS!!!I found your post at one in the morning, crying my eyes out because I had to get a few items finished for a wedding. I'm not a novice sewer, so the more the machine stuffed up, the more upset I became! I could just see it costing me time and money to fix, time which I did not have! So, thank-you from the bottom of my heart, I am truly truly grateful that you took the time to post this with pictures and everything!Pepper, from Australia.P.S A million Thank-yous!!!!!!!!

Anonymoussaid.hi everyonei have a bad news for the janome users, i just bought a janome 2222 ( mechanic) and it has thread tension issues that after i tried everything still diesnt work not even at 0 on plain cotton so i looked carefully to see if its not correctly installed so i ended up with the fact that its like that from the factory after i made calls at janome, and the attendant even said ah maybe doesnt pass throw tension and i said look lady im not stupid, i tried everything even tightening the bobin tension. And still nothing so the issue is the waranty doesnt cover it even its like this from the factory ( has 2 weeks the machine) so just imagine my frustration with the too stitches. Said.Dear rdrop,OMG! I feel like hugging you right now! You just saved me a day of work, 45 british pounds, a nervous breakdown, and a 30 minute walk up-hill with my sewing machine in a suitcase to get it to the repair store (I don't have a car.and live in the most hilly city every created.).PLUS, it is actually really satisfying to get your hands on the sewing machine, and fix the problem. I felt like McGyver for 10 minutes.Thank you for that tip, it totally fixed the problem on my Janome DC3050 (which also needed a clean up.shame.)I agree with Mary and others, you are a hero.Cheers,Leni. Said.Just have to add one thing.

I took my bobbin assembly apart as described and brushed away all the fluff in the well and on the black thing, and then I tried tightening the screw, but the tension was still way too loose. I tried tightening it a bit, kind of a lot, and super tight, without result. Then I loosened the screw all the way and blew in between the two curved bits of metal (I guess the thin one is the equivalent of a tension disc?) and eventually I pulled out a.tiny. knot of dust from behind where the thread runs. After that it was possible to tighten it and the machine now runs perfectly!

Thank you for this post! Said. This is the best! I was at the dealer and asked a question about if it was possible my thread tension was messed up and they told me I had the wrong thread for the bobbin. I had some opinionated older ladies tell me that I didn't know what I was doing. I played with upper tension settings and tore my hair out over broken threads and terrible stitches for quite some time but I've finally solved my issues! My Janome embroidery machine is finally working great!

Thank you so much - that last picture is worth its weight in gold. Denisesaid.Hi all! I have read over all the comments. I was bought a new 7900 and I have had nothing but trouble and believed it to be me. Same thing, tried everything multiple times.

Was at a Janome days lesson the other day and they suggested buying the blue dot bobbin. Thought that might fix it. Is this worth trying on the original bobbin? Been told not to mess with the blue dot bobbin as it will never go back if you touch it. I’m going nuts and have reverted back to myElna in my frustration. Thanks for your help.

Said.Sometimes bad tension is the result of a heavy thread or a different needle. I just discovered that thread has different thickness and can really mess up my tension. Also, the newer batik fabrics (gorgeous as they are) are a tight weave and difficult to get a good tension with. So frustrating. They also say that thread produces lint that can mess up our tension wheels inside the machine and we should vacuum, with a a TINY vacuum, out the threads inside the machine.

When did our machine get so complicated?

Best AnswerIt sounds as though it's time for your New Home to have a visit with a professional repair tech. You've noted changing needle, checking tension, cleaning dust, so I'm assuming you've also followed the user manual instructions for the settings needed - after those boxes are ticked there is usually only one reason a machine won't sew - a broken or worn gear/part/assembly within the machine. Generally this isn't something that can be handled at home - a pro has the service manuals, tools, and training to work out and repair the problem. The easiest first step to correct thread breakage is to snip your thread at the spool and rethread. If you have different sizes of spool caps, are you using the correct size? Threads can tangle around the spool pin and snap. The spool cap helps to prevent this.Upper thread tension could also be too tight. Try lowering the tension (lower the number). Are there any burrs or rough spots in the needle plate from a previous needle breaking mishap?

    Janome Quilters Companion 6019

Such burrs can cause fabric snares and thread breaks. Burrs can be smoothed with an emery board or fine sand paper. The same results can happen from a burr or other damage in the bobbin hook.Double check that the needle size is up to the job at hand. A fine needle cannot effectively stitch denim, for example. How is the quality of the thread being used?

All threads are not created equal. Threads with excessive slubs or knots will grab and break. Inconsistent threads will have weak spots that break, as will loosely twisted threads. Use good quality thread. Your machine will not get fuzzed up and your project won001at fall apart! I do repair-refurb on mostly Singer mechanical machines - I'm not qualified to work on a computerised model. However, it does sound as though your foot control is going.

But before you spend money on the replacement control, try cleaning the connection points on your machine AND the power cord. Best AnswerI'm not at all comfortable with overlockers but I did find a manual for the 734d (an updated model of your vintage machine but similar enough to be off help!) and am posting the link for you in case you no longer have the original to your machine:It's a free download, and if that doesn't help you, the only advice I can then give is to take it to a repair tech with experience on overlockers. I do standard domestic machine repair-refurb work on my Sewing 101 student machines but as above - I'm not at all experienced with overlockers. Wish I could help more than posting a link to a similar model user guide! March 10, 2014 0 found this helpfulDepending on the age and model of your machine (under warranty, or an older machine), it sounds as though the gear used to change from straight stitch to zig-zag is failing.

If you have knobs-dials-buttons, the trouble could be there, too. This is a fix for a qualified repair tech if the following doesn't solve your problem:Are you absolutely certain you have everything set on the machine for zig-zag sewing? All the knobs-dials-buttons switched to the correct setting? Is the stitch width set for z-z?Are you using the open toe presser foot?If none of that helps, it really is time for the machine to be seen by a pro. January 25, 2016 0 found this helpfulYou have rights - but depending on where you are those rights may only be in effect for 90 days after purchase - check your receipt for more information.

Too, Janome is a sewing machine manufacturer with a good reputation and all their machines, no matter what country sold in, come with at least a one year warranty including on parts. It sounds as though the foot controller is faulty - and the shop is trying to avoid honouring the warranty - they'd be in a real hurry to tell you if their agreement with Janome doesn't include warranty coverage, so it's almost dead cert they do and should honour their responsibility to the consumer. Do a little research first to be sure the shop is responsible or if you need to contact Janome for replacement parts or servicing. If the shop is responsible you should physically carry the machine (and all the bits, and your receipt) back to the shop, insist on speaking to the manager, and you will (hopefully) leave with either a new foot controller or a completely new machine. If the shop says they need the machine to be checked over and tries to tell you they have to have the original receipt as well - BE VERY WARY. This scam is on the uptick in the UK, US, and Latin America, and has cost people their sewing machines. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR ORIGINAL RECEIPT - if they won't accept a photocopy, and won't give you a proper shop ticket (stating they've taken your machine for servicing/warranty honouring) - grab your machine and run!Contact Janome through their website pages for your country and make a complaint about the shop - no reputable company wants their products sold by disreputable stockist.

And at the same time, request assistance from Janome regarding getting your new sewing machine in reliable working order - they will be very happy to assist. July 2, 2016 0 found this helpfulI have a Janome SL30X, about a year old, it suddenly jammed up on me back last year while I had been quite happily sewing with no problems. I have taken this machine back to John Lewis who can get it sewing within minutes but with no explanation, the last time I tried it as soon as we were home but after a few stitches it jammed again!

Counless times I have tried to resolve the problem but can't figure it, I dread the thought of going back to John Lewis. Please can you help! I need to find a way to repair my Janome New Home Mc7500.

It sews great on medium weight, but when I sew on sheer curtains it seems to gather the fabric. I noticed the bobbin tension is very tight to the point of breaking!

How do I fix this?It has been in the shop and I was told the bobbin case needed to be replaced, but since the machine is so old the parts aren't available. I did find a new bobbin and face plate. The machine is still doing the same thing. Can anyone help me to find a fix?

I don't have the money to purchase a new machine!
